Collected our wee feathered (or not as you will see from the photos) friends on Saturday, which was also their first day of freedom. They’d been living in a cage for 18 months, all 5 in one cage. Apparently there’s 20 million chickens living in battery cages in the UK alone.
Anyway, they don’t look pretty yet but they’ll get there.
This is Miss Moneyhenny having her first scratch around for bugs n grubs! Her comb is very floppy and yes she does look a right state but come summertime she’ll look like a different chuck altogether.

We went for 5 chucks in the end, the rescue organisation – Battery Hen Welfare – had rescued 600 that morning from the battery farm. It was so lovely to see how many people were patiently waiting to re-home these poor little creatures. Much better than ending up in a tin of pet food!

The Fab Four
Day after tomorrow we are collecting our lovely ex-battery hens and giving them a life worth living. I’ll get some photos posted up asap but they sure won’t be looking pretty to begin with!
The chucks will be named Sophia Lohen, Princess Layer, Gloria Estefhen and Miss Moneyhenny.
Recycled Fine Silver Jewellery
It’s been ages since I’ve blogged, I’m getting a bit lazy! Had to mention these gorgeous earrings we’ve just got in from Janice Doner who is a very talented jewellery designer in the States.
She uses a material called Art Clay which is initially pliable so she moulds the jewellery by hand and then fires it in her kiln. The material is made from reclaimed silver so the end result is .999 grade silver.
Unique and beautiful, I’m really pleased with everything that’s arrived.

Just collected 2 very fluffy kittens that I’m fostering for Cat’s Protection (I’m a volunteer for the Mid-Warwickshire branch). I’ll load up a photo soon – they are so gorgeous! Long hair, big blue eyes… what are the chances of me actually letting them go?? hmm, slim at this rate. I have to look after them for at least the next 3 weeks as they are too young to be re-homed until then.
They are 2 sisters and are both tabby/torty mix. Small enough to fit in the palm of my hand! Adorable.

Yay for getting these fab, groovy photo albums back into stock. They are made from genuine recycled car plates and will hold 40 standard 4×6 prints. Even the closing strap is recycled from a truck inner tube AND we’ve offset their journey so all in all, a nice green item thank you very much. They make such a great gift for people who are hard to buy for.
